The exhibition Arts and Letters of Peru in Caricatures, by the Uruguayan journalist, writer and caricaturist Jaime Clara, proposes a visual journey through some of the most representative figures of Peruvian culture through the language of caricature.

The exhibition brings together 26 portraits of writers, musicians, artists and thinkers, in which the author combines observation, synthesis and humor to build images that dialogue with the cultural history of Peru. Far from mere representation, each caricature works as a sensitive interpretation that highlights the features, gestures and symbolic universes of its subjects.

The exhibition emerges as an offshoot of Clara’s own practice, as he finds in caricature an extension of his journalistic work and of his ties to the cultural world. In this body of work, that gaze revolves around a constellation of Peruvian figures, building a visual map that connects art, literature and memory.

The exhibition is dedicated to the writer and diplomat Bruno Podestá, a key figure in the cultural exchange between Peru and Uruguay, whose work as cultural attaché of the Embassy of Peru in Uruguay promoted numerous initiatives for dialogue between the two countries.

In this sense, Arts and Letters of Peru in Caricatures not only presents a body of works, but also becomes a space of encounter between cultures, where drawing turns into a bridge between trajectories, territories and traditions.
