TEMPORARY EXHIBITION
The other faces of Nicaragua
Collection of Latin American Masks by Claudio Rama

February 27 – 12:30 p.m.
The exhibition presents some thirty masks from the Claudio Rama Collection, highlighting the country’s cultural diversity. From Monday to Saturday our temporary exhibition awaits you, which is part of a collection of objects from different regions of Latin America.
Claudio Rama’s collection already exceeds 900 pieces and is regularly presented at MAPI.
He bought the first piece of the collection in Mexico in the second half of the 1970s and since 2010, when Claudio Rama moved back to Montevideo, he focused on building the collection with a greater intensity in ethnographic research.
Thus it was that, little by little, the growth in the number of masks was forcing him to establish the logistical conditions and premises in accordance with this ever more forceful expansion until reaching the more than 900 pieces he has today and the signing of an agreement with the museum for their exhibition.

Archaeology of a soil: a selective look at some hydraulic floors
Exhibition of the artist José Gómez Rifas

June 7th
In this exhibition, the artist rescues tiles from the Museo de Arte Precolombino e Indígena (MAPI) and many other places, to explore their history and aesthetics from an archaeological perspective.
Gómez Rifas does not limit himself to MAPI tiles, but also incorporates pieces found at various historical and architectural sites.
This approach allows him to draw a cultural and temporal map of hydraulic floors, highlighting their evolution and the impact they have had in different contexts.
