TEMPORARY EXHIBITION

MIMLA Room

Collection of Latin American Musical Instruments

Here you will find a great diversity of instruments from different parts of the Americas and from different periods, ranging from pre-Columbian times to the present.

Some of them are of indigenous origin, others Creole and others of Afro-American origin.

The most commonly used pre-Columbian instruments were wind instruments, such as flutes, trumpets and ocarinas, and percussion instruments, such as drums and maracas.

Although their use was generalized throughout the Americas, it varied from region to region, both in form, function and aesthetics.
With the arrival of the Europeans, modifications were made to some of the existing instruments and others were incorporated, such as stringed instruments.

This tour is a small sample of musical instruments, belonging to the Interactive Exhibition of Latin American Music, loaned to MAPI by maestros Esteban Gil and Walter Díaz.

Designing this exhibition has been an inspiring, challenging and fun experience for us, and we hope you can enjoy it in the same way.
