PERMANENT EXHIBITION

Collection of Latin American Masks by Claudio Rama

Permanent room

The MAPI building houses one of the most emblematic collections in the region: the Claudio Rama Collection of Latin American Masks. This permanent exhibition, spanning over 150 square meters, offers a unique journey through the diversity and cultural richness of Latin America, featuring 300 traditional masks and costumes.

The pieces on display are representative of carnivals, festivals, and traditional celebrations from various Latin American countries and regions. Each mask and costume reflects the essence of these cultural manifestations, standing out for their historical, artistic, and symbolic value. This collection allows visitors to connect with the cultural roots of the region, offering a comprehensive and enriching perspective.

Since 2016, MAPI has presented this collection through thematic temporary exhibitions organized by country and region. Now, with its permanent display, the public has the opportunity to fully explore the stories, meanings, and traditions these pieces represent.

The gallery is not only an exhibition space but also an educational resource for the general public and educational institutions. Using this collection, the MAPI develops workshops and activities for schools, high schools, and colleges, promoting learning and appreciation of Latin American cultural heritage.

This room reaffirms MAPI’s commitment to the preservation and dissemination of cultural traditions, consolidating its position as a point of reference in the exploration of Latin American identity and diversity.
