Collection of Latin American Masks by Claudio Rama
The MAPI building houses one of the most emblematic collections in the region: the Claudio Rama Collection of Latin American Masks. This permanent exhibition, spanning over 150 square meters, offers a unique journey through the diversity and cultural richness of Latin America, featuring 300 traditional masks and costumes.
The pieces on display represent carnivals, festivals, and traditional celebrations from various countries and regions of Latin America. Each mask and costume reflects the essence of these cultural expressions, standing out for their historical, artistic, and symbolic value.This collection allows visitors to connect with the cultural roots of the region, offering a comprehensive and enriching perspective.
Since 2016, MAPI has showcased this collection through thematic temporary exhibitions organized by countries and regions. Now, with its permanent exhibition, the public has the opportunity to fully explore the stories, meanings, and traditions these pieces represent.
The exhibition hall is not just a display space but also an educational resource for the general public and educational institutions. Based on this collection, MAPI develops workshops and activities aimed at schools, high schools, and colleges, promoting learning and appreciation of Latin American cultural heritage.
