MAPI and the Embassy of Peru in Uruguay present the exhibition “El sol bajo los cascos” by Walter Tournier, composed of four sections in which the artist recreates episodes from the history of Peru, inspired by his reading of chroniclers of the period.

“..it combines graphics and planimetries with reliefs and volumes whose arrangement breaks the conventions of the classical perspective system, which gives these scenes a peculiar spatial dynamic; it refers to metal as a subject of the conquest (a subject ranging from steel armor to the coveted precious metals) and, on the other hand, to scrap metal as a metaphor, that is, as the irrecoverable historical residue left by the wars.” – States the critic Gabriel Peluffo Linari

Since his youth, Walter Tounier has been a student of Inca and pre-Inca cultures and history, and he is internationally recognized as an artist, author of animated films and outstanding creator of metal sculpture, displaying in every case a subtle ingenuity and an extraordinary craftsman’s skill in the handling of forms and materials.
