On November 12, MAPI will welcome the distinguished Portuguese organist João Vaz for a day that combines a lecture, a sound showcase and a concert, focused on the history, technique and heritage richness of the Iberian organ.

The program includes the concert “The Organ in Portugal from the 16th to the 19th Century,” an opportunity to travel through more than three centuries of musical tradition through specially selected performances. Complementing this presentation, João Vaz will give the lecture “The Six Organs of the Basilica of Mafra,” addressing the uniqueness of this monumental ensemble, its historical significance and its complex restoration.

To close, the final piece of the concert will be performed together with renowned Uruguayan artist Cristina García Banegas, creating a dialogue between two musical traditions that share roots, influences and aesthetic sensibility.
