As part of the 12th Edition of ‘Montevideo + Museums’, a program exclusive to members of the Montevideo Tourist Association, a roundtable will be held on May 27 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Sala Dorada of the Montevideo City Hall, located at Av. 18 de Julio 1360, floor 1 and a half.

“Montevideo + Museums” supports the goal of raising awareness of the fact that museums are an important means for cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures, and the development of mutual understanding, collaboration, and peace among peoples. Organized every May 18, International Museum Day, or around that date for more than 40 years, the events and activities planned to celebrate International Museum Day can last a day, a weekend, or even a whole week. More and more museums around the world are taking part in this global celebration: last year, 37,000 museums participated in the event across 158 countries and territories. Montevideo is one of the destinations that for 12 years has been actively participating in this initiative proposed by ICOM – International Council of Museums.

Some of the museums of Montevideo, brought together through their membership in the Montevideo Tourist Association, have organized an outstanding activity that we are convinced will be a great contribution to the theme proposed this year by ICOM – International Museum Day 2024: “Museums for Education and Research”, which highlights the fundamental role of cultural institutions in providing a holistic educational experience. This day advocates for a more conscious, sustainable, and inclusive world.
