On Thursday, May 22 at 12:00 pm, the MAPI opens a new temporary exhibition that invites visitors to explore the deep cultural tradition of the State of Guerrero, Mexico, through its rich mask-making heritage.

The exhibition, made up of pieces from Claudio Rama’s collection, highlights the ritual, artistic, and spiritual value of Mexican ethnographic masks, used in local festivities marked by the fusion of Indigenous, Christian, and Afro-descendant influences.

Guerrero stands out as one of the regions with the greatest cultural and symbolic diversity in the use of masks, especially in celebrations that combine myth, identity, and territory. The masks, most of them with animal forms, express both the ancestral and the contemporary sides of community life.
