This December 4, the MAPI Café opens the exhibition “Textilarte,” presented by the Embassy of Guatemala in Uruguay, a proposal that invites visitors to delve into the cultural, aesthetic and symbolic richness of Guatemala’s traditional textiles.

The show especially highlights huipiles, traditional blouses worn by Indigenous women descended from the Maya. More than clothing, these garments constitute an embroidered language, a system of signs in which every color, design and motif holds a story, a tradition and a worldview. Huipiles thus serve as vehicles of identity and memory, passing ancestral knowledge down from generation to generation.

Their vibrant color palette, the complexity of their patterns and the delicacy of their craftsmanship make each piece a work of art charged with emotion and meaning. The exhibition offers a journey that allows visitors to appreciate both the aesthetic dimension and the symbolic depth of a textile tradition that remains alive and in constant transformation.
