During the winter break, MAPI invites you to enjoy a different experience, with workshops and activities designed for children and families. Through playful, educational and creative activities, participants will be able to approach art, archaeology and Indigenous cultures in a participatory and fun way.

With options adapted to different ages, each workshop combines museum tours, object making, games and discoveries, in an environment specially designed for learning and having fun during the school break.

○ In Search of the Past. Archaeology Workshop.

Do you want to be archaeologists for a day? You can take part in an archaeological excavation, search for objects from the past and investigate in the laboratory just like archaeologists do, working as a family team.

○ Latin American Masks Workshop

Did you know that in Latin America there are many celebrations in which masks are used? While touring MAPI’s mask exhibition, we will learn about some of these festivities and the use of masks in them. Finally, participants will create a mask with different materials, inspired by the masks we saw, to take home!

○ Clay Birds. Indigenous Ceramics Workshop

Many years ago, along the Uruguay River, there lived groups of people known for creating wonderful clay pieces. Among these were the “bells”, which were given that name because their shape is similar to this object. Many of these bells had the shapes of birds. In this activity we invite you to learn about the lives of these people and about these unique objects that were part of our past.

○ Threads, Wool and Colors. Indigenous Textiles Workshop

Through a tour of MAPI’s exhibition, we invite you to discover how threads, wool, their colors and weavings are created, and then create together a piece that participants can take home.

○ Jeike al monte nativo. Drawing and Painting Workshop

Do you know the native plants and trees? The native forest is a world full of shapes, textures and colors. We will tour Carmela Piñón’s exhibition as explorers and discover what the ceibo tree, the lichens and the native forest painted by the artist look like. We will also look for the insects and birds hidden in her paintings, the ones you can only see if you look closely. At the end, we will create our own work, learning to use the charcoal that Carmela uses in her work, made from forest branches.

○ Through the Worlds of Toto the Glyptodont

Did you know that dinosaurs were not the only large animals that lived in the past? We invite you to travel to the end of the Ice Age and meet these other wonderful animals that lived in that period and also coexisted with people. Don’t miss it!
