MAPI and the Sociedad de Arquitectos del Uruguay sign an institutional cooperation agreement
MAPI — Museum of Pre-Columbian and Indigenous Art and the Sociedad de Arquitectos del Uruguay signed a Framework Agreement for Institutional Cooperation with the aim of promoting joint actions in the areas of architecture, heritage, design and cultural management.
The agreement was signed by the Director of MAPI, Facundo de Almeida, and the President of the SAU, architect Alberto Leira Regueiro. Through this alliance, both institutions will be able to develop building projects and interventions, organize academic and outreach activities, exchange knowledge and publications, and generate initiatives of common interest related to cultural heritage and the built environment.
The agreement will make it possible to deepen the actions that MAPI carries out through its Restoration School-Workshop, which for 15 years has trained beneficiaries of the Accesos Program, formerly Uruguay Trabaja, of the Ministry of Social Development. This initiative has provided job training and social development tools to nearly 500 people, while contributing to the restoration, rehabilitation and maintenance of the museum’s headquarters building, declared a National Historic Monument.
Likewise, MAPI and the SAU will jointly promote seminars, conferences, exhibitions, courses and other activities aimed at strengthening the dialogue between architecture, urbanism and culture. These initiatives will include the participation of professionals, researchers and actors from the public and private spheres.
The signing of this agreement reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to the preservation and enhancement of Uruguayan cultural heritage, as well as to the promotion of spaces for interdisciplinary cooperation that contribute to the development of new perspectives on the relationship between architecture, the city and memory.
Based on this agreement, MAPI and the Sociedad de Arquitectos del Uruguay will work on the development of specific projects to achieve the stated objectives and expand opportunities for collaboration for the benefit of the community.
