On October 31, MAPI will inaugurate its Day of the Dead Altar, part of The Street of Altars, an initiative organized by the Embassy of Mexico in Uruguay to promote this tradition, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The museum’s altar pays tribute to life, memory and the bonds that endure, incorporating flowers, light, meaningful objects and symbols that invite us to remember those who are no longer with us, from a perspective that recognizes the ritual beauty of the Day of the Dead.

This year, MAPI dedicates its altar to two figures who left a deep mark on culture and the city: Mariano Arana and Thomas Lowy. Their legacy lives on in the collective memory, and this tribute seeks to celebrate their contribution to heritage, architecture, cultural management and urban identity.
